Key Highlights:
- The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for defence procurement proposals worth approximately ₹1.10 lakh crore across the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force.
- Around 98% of the approved procurement is expected to be sourced from Indian industry, reinforcing the government's focus on domestic defence manufacturing and self-reliance.
- The approved proposals span Advanced Light Helicopters, Arudhra radars, marine gas turbines, ground-based multi-purpose jammers, high-mobility vehicles, mine-laying systems and other military equipment.
- The latest approvals are part of India's defence procurement plans, with FY27 defence capital outlay budgeted at ₹2.19 lakh crore, compared with ₹1.86 lakh crore in the revised FY26 estimate.
Key Observations:
India's Defence sector continues to see government focus on indigenisation, higher domestic procurement and modernisation of the armed forces. With nearly 98% of the latest procurement proposals earmarked for Indian industry, the development reflects the focus on domestic defence procurement.
