India’s Chemicals & Petrochemicals Ecosystem Continues to Develope

Key Highlights

  • ₹3.4 lakh crore invested: India’s three operational Petroleum, Chemicals & Petrochemicals Investment Regions (PCPIRs) have attracted ₹3.4 lakh crore of investment.
  • 2,200+ manufacturing units: The three PCPIRs across Dahej, Visakhapatnam-Kakinada and Paradeep have facilitated the establishment of more than 2,200 chemical manufacturing units.
  • 3.7 lakh jobs created: The PCPIR ecosystem has generated employment for nearly 3.7 lakh people.
  • ₹1.05 lakh crore FDI: Chemicals and petrochemicals attracted approximately ₹1,04,895 crore ($12.51 billion) in FDI between 2014 and 2026.
  • 37 Quality Control Orders: The Government has implemented 37 QCOs across chemical products to strengthen quality standards and address sub-standard imports.
  • 10 Plastic Parks approved: The Government has approved 10 Plastic Parks, with four having completed infrastructure development.
  • 51 CIPET centres: The Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering & Technology (CIPET) has expanded to 51 centres, supporting technical skills and technology development across the sector.

Key Observations

Infrastructure + Investment + Skills are developing together across India's chemicals and petrochemicals ecosystem, with industrial clusters supporting manufacturing activity.

The development forms part of India's broader focus on domestic manufacturing, import substitution and export competitiveness across chemicals and downstream industries.
