Indian Market Update
- Nifty 50 gained 2.17% in July, with broader indices also positive. Midcaps gained 1.60%, Smallcaps gained 1.13%, reflecting strength beyond large caps.
- Sectorally, IT and Consumer Durables led with gains of 16.77% and 9.96%, while Energy and Defence saw a decline of -2.54% and -1.98% respectively.
- Factor indices showed mixed trends overall as Quality led with a 1.78% gain, while Low Volatility posted a 1.75% rise. Momentum was still down by 1.11% and Enhanced Value declined marginally by -0.14%.
- Nifty 500 was up by 2.02% in July, driven largely by Consumer Discretionary, Information Technology, and Healthcare, while Industrials, Utilities, and Services remained negative.
Global Market Update
- S&P 500 declined 0.13% in July, as Information Technology weighed down the index returns by 1.24%, while Industrials and Utilities sectors also contributed negatively.
- Emerging markets showed a sharp divergence overall, as China and Brazil gained 8.60% and 6.28%, while Korea was sharply down by 17.11% and Taiwan fell 5.80%.
- Developed markets were broadly positive this month, as UK gained 5.21% and Germany rose 3.19%, while France added 1.86% and Japan saw a modest gain of 1.02%.
- Crude oil rose sharply by 21.83% in the month, touching $84.67 a barrel, while Gold stayed flat at $4,026 an ounce. USD/INR also remained nearly flat with a 0.80% move.
- Crypto markets moved higher together this month, as Ethereum gained 16.89% while Bitcoin was up by 8.04%, with both still remaining lower over the preceding six month period.
Economic Indicators
India
- CPI inflation edged up to 4.30% from 3.90%, while the repo rate held steady at 5.25% and the 10 year yield eased slightly to 6.81%.
- FII inflows saw a resurgence at ₹40,031 crore, DII equity inflows stood at ₹17,909 crore while DII debt outflows stood at ₹36,271 crore.
US
- CPI inflation fell to 3.50% from 4.20%, even as the Fed kept rates unchanged at 3.75%.
- US Tax Receipts rose to $496 Bn from $336 Bn one month prior, while the 10 year yield also rose slightly to 4.71%.
